Print Isn’t Dead 001 | Full Review

posted by Marcroy August 7, 2014

People of Print are proud to present their first ever publication which has been dubbed “the holy grail of independent editorial design” by Itsnicethat. The sold out magazine has received great press by the likes of magCulture, Eye Magazine, Cool Hunting, Itsnicethat, Paste Magazine and PSFK to name a few. Jeremy Leslie noted that it is “a sensual cacophony of colour and smell”, Simon Esterson said that “it’s really bold and very contemporary, it doesn’t feel like a conventional magazine, it feels like something slightly different which is good.” John L. Walters said “you only have to flick through to see that Print Isn’t Dead.”

Print Isn’t Dead magazine was successfully funded via Kickstarter, the project breached its initial goal, then further to that it exceeded the stretch goal of £6500 in return for the addition of the beautiful fluorescent spot Pantone 805c to the CMYK printing process.

The Archive and Reader typeface families designed by Colophon Foundry were used throughout the magazine. The front cover was designed by Patrick Savile, which has a subtle hint towards analogue becoming digital. A page of the magazine was dedicated towards ASPCA featuring the infamous disabled cat, Lil’ Bub – this is something that we would like to offer other charities in future issues.

The project tells an ironic and sad story about the world of print – Butler, Tanner & Dennis who were the initial printer went into administration, followed by the passing of Felix Dennis himself, who had once saved Butler & Tanner from adminstration before.

The project was featured on Print Week after the demise of B,T&D, which opened the floodgates to hundreds of quotes from offset litho printers across the UK.

People of Print opted for Pureprint because of their quality and attention to detail and who are known for printing the incredible Eye magazine. The magazine was printed on Fedrigoni Arcoprint paper. It is only because of the kind and generous support of both Pureprint and Fedrigoni that the magazine was put into production to the quality that it is.
