Its official, the first ever Broken Fingaz exhibition in the USA has been announced and is set to open on June 20th at Howard Griffin Gallery 410 Spring Street, Los Angeles. This will be their biggest solo show since 2012’s Crazy Eye Hotel in London and consists of a large-scale multimedia temple installation complete with new paintings, light works and of course lots of surprises, its certainly not one to be missed.

World-renowned psych-pop graffiti collective Broken Fingaz were founded in 2001. Since then Unga, Kip, Tant and Deso’s artwork, which is a combination of enigmatic graphic design, music, film and installation has been exhibited in major galleries in their native Israel including the Haifa Museum of Art and the Tel Aviv Museum alongside Broken Fingaz solo shows in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, St Petersburg, Tokyo and Vienna.

Drawing on the rootless culture of their homeland the Broken Fingaz aim to create an identity which was lacking for young Israelis. Alongside this, the group have travelled worldwide learning and understanding cultural differences and influences. This reflects on the content of their artwork which is made up of bold lines and acid pop colours, also giving a significant nod towards 80s comic book illustrations and pulp horror. Their artwork often provokes a visceral reaction as it explores themes of sex and death, producing humorous, controversial and explicit imagery parallel with bodily dismemberment, mutilated limbs and skeletons. Their exploration of the physical body brings private desires into public spaces. Broken Fingaz are also heavily inspired by Japanese Shunga woodcut prints from the Edo period. More recently this influence has been combined with motifs from Indian spirituality, interrogating the duality between the sacred and profane through symbolic imagery.
