Orde Schepper by Bert Scholten

posted by Anna Chayasatit January 15, 2016

Groningen-based artist and musician Bert Scholten always displays his love affair with music through a powerful series of animations, posters, and drawings. Recently, he has unveiled his latest, beautifully-designed, screen-printed publication, entitled ‘Orde Schepper’, which means Order Creator, celebrating his artistic experimentation in music through the simplest collection of irregular shapes, drawings and primary colours.

The publication can be seen as a standalone piece of art. But if you look a little closer, “You can instantly see what it is. Like a figurative painting or drawing, you can see what is being pictured.” Scholten described his new publication in an interview with Noisey.

Even though the publication was inspired by pop imagery, internet and cultural juxtapositions, this new publication and its accompanying track have added a tactile dimension that is missing from today’s fast-paced digital world. Not only does ‘Orde Schepper’ prove Scholten’s interdisciplinary mindset, it also explores the possibilities and limitations of the visual and aural material. To put it simply, it’s one of those publications that will certainly strike a chord with any reader.
