Alana Macleod — ‘Solace’ Collection

Beginning her creative career in interior design, Macleod’s focus on colour and texture swayed her towards surface pattern and textiles. By hand painting, playing and most importantly, having fun with her work, Macleod’s work is truly unique in style and is most definitely one to watch.

‘Solace’ is an uplifting exploration of colour and surface texture, inspired by a variation of things that bring people comfort and peace when they are suffering with mental illness. Focussing on her own personal experiences that mental health can often have a negative and morbid portrayal, Macleod wanted to look at imagery which reflects happiness and peaceful times. She works with vibrant, fresh colours and materials, helping her to create a cheerful ambience, rather than it feeling melancholy.

By screen printing surface patterns, ‘Solace’ holds those little imperfections that create such a huge character, emphasising her concept, and making the collection even more impressive. I don’t know about you, but I feel happier just looking at it. Macleod’s work will be available to preview at New Designers, Bournemouth this summer.
