New to our curated marketplace, Department Store, is Dicks Dont Lie; an offbeat, independent boutique based in the Netherlands. Their covetable unisex streetwear and collectable homeware and accessories are as cool as they are cheeky. Founded by Dutch graphic designer Roger Huskens, Dicks Don’t Lie was born after Roger began attending pottery classes where he signed the bottom of his pots with his pseudonym. The name ignited a creative spark, and the brand was born.
With his brand, Roger hopes to break taboos behind the male body. His child-like drawing style reflects his want to “celebrate the male body in a cheeky childlike innocent way, and make people smile and giggle without linking it to gender, sexual orientation or other sexual references“. Roger wants the world to see the male body from a child’s point of view, and through his collection of pins, apparel and homeware he enables this.
The brand’s pin collection are a celebration of the male body; mounted on small artworks that provide further context, they intend to be coveted and collected. Every product is innocent and childish upon first glance, but with a second look the cheekier layer can be revealed. One of the pins is even inspired by a tattoo of a pair of briefs Roger has on his arm.
Quality is of high importance for every item, and the products and packaging are made with respect for the planet. Roger uses paper instead of plastic as much as possible, and everything is printed by hand at Atelier Haven in Maastricht (NL) with water based ink. All of the clothing is vegan and made from organic and recycled cotton. For Roger, the packaging of his products is also very significant, making every item collectable as an artwork. From the boxes to the tissue paper, each can be framed as a unique piece of art; “every delivery should be a Dicks Dont Lie party, also for the mailman” exclaims Roger.
Being his own boss makes Roger particularly happy, as well as knowing he will be putting a smile on someones face through bringing Dicks Dont Lie to their life, wardrobe and home. “This is just the start of something big, the collection will grow with ceramics, underwear, socks, art, stationary, books and even more! I want to break taboos and make the world a more cheeky and fun place” he concludes.
