Gilfalo Art Design | The Journey So Far

2025 is right upon us, which marks 8 years as a printmaker for Chris Gill of Gilfalo Art Design. Gilfalo Art Design all began on a snowy day in a small 7’x 9’ bedroom back in Chris and his wife’s home in PA. Here, he started carving small linoleum block prints like VW busses, french presses, flowers, and nature scenes. Now, 8 years later, and a cross country move under their wings, things are a bit different.

Chris and his wife and moved back to their home state of Wisconsin in 2020. “I progressively saw the need to increase my workspace and upgrade my tools,” says the printmaker. The time eventually came to move their workspace out of their nest, so they took the leap to rent a studio space in a nearby historic building, built in 1908. This ample space gave Chris the freedom to start on a new path, focusing on something that was always a passion of his; concert posters.

He tells us; “I’ve always collected posters, mainly screen printed ones with an occasional block print in the mix. It was the perfect collectible for me, and as I’ve attended hundreds of shows through my years, I learned early that others love to collect them as well. The lightbulb clicked in my brain and I’ve kept the electricity on since.”

With 57 linoleum block concert posters under their belt, including bands like Trey Anastasio (Phish), Spafford, Ani DiFranco, and The Steel Wheels, Chris and his wife Dani, who together run Gilfalo Art Design, couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds. Just this month, the pair upgraded their process by adding a 1961 Vandercook Universal 1 printing press into their studio. “This machine, not yet named (a quirky thing I do with all our studio equipment), is a dream come true,” states Chris.

Chris concludes; “We are so excited to see where this journey will take us, what new bands we will work with, and how many different ideas and designs will come into play now with this new addition. The road is long and we just put the stick shift into 2nd gear. It’s time to make some coffee and get inking!”
