The world acclaimed Gestalten, German Art Book Publishers, have created a new publishing branch titled Little Gestalten. Of course because of their impeccable eye and critical design taste you would expect nothing less than something truly special; and that’s just what they have achieved. With the new narratives they aim to bring ‘today’s innovative authors and illustrators to children.’ A few new titles are the re-worked classic fairytales Little Red Ridding Hood and Puss in Boots, filled with vibrant illustrations from Clémentine Sourdais. The concertina books have also been created to be used as shadow puppets casting a magical array of images – available to delight adults and children alike.
Clémentines’ book shows off intricate paper cut work, and gives full consideration to the benefits of building layers within the cut out book. Another gem is Patrick and Traci Concepcións’ Alphabetics, ‘An Aesthetically Awesome Alliterated Alphabet Anthology’. Typical to Gestalten they always push concepts and expectations, and the Alphabetics book does just that, giving humorous and thought provoking alliterations to accompany each illustration, acting as educational snippets to stimulate young minds.
