Topografie di Resistenza is a collaborative artistic reflection between different artists and a printmaking collective. The project was an activity spread over a Spring month and involved various events, exhibitions, and print sessions. Topografie di Resistenza is the result of a collaboration between Tipi Strani, a project to rediscover an ancient dexterity linked to woodtype letterpress printing, and Per Inciso, an experimental laboratory of engraving, analogue photography, printing, and graphics.
The collaboration between Tipi Strani and Per Inciso took the form of a two-day residency where a dialogue took place that explored the meaning of the Resistance through images and words.
On Sunday, 2nd April 2023, at the Tipi Strani laboratory in Marano Vicentino, a preview exhibition was held of the posters created for the Liberation Day of April 25, 2023 as a result of the collaboration between associations. The fulcrum of the intervention consisted of a series of woodtype letterpress prints that updated the theme of the Italian Resistance on the occasion of Liberation Day.
The Topografie di Resistenza project intertwines photographic shots with graphics to recall the contemporary declination with four compositions born during a shared design work between the two associations. A double interpretation of article 3 of the Italian Constitution presents itself as a field of experimentation for a chromatic game and reflection on the implementation of the principles of inclusion and equality.
Topography can be synonymous with mountains, plains, valleys, and coasts. Coordinates and reference points of places that belonged to those who, 80 years ago, valued their human dimension, choosing to defend the part they believed in: the part of democracy and freedom. Thus, these Coordinates act as reference points for those who have chosen to travel along a road both in the past and the present.
In the days leading up to the 78th Liberation Day, the typographic posters were posted in Vicenza in the spaces intended for the information posters of associations or regarding private initiatives. In this way the contribution of Tipi Strani and Per Inciso was not limited to the internal dimension, but was able to manifest its collective nature by dialogue with the urban dimensions of the city.
From 25th April to 5th May Porto Burci in Vicenza hosted the exhibition Topografie di Resistenza and displayed the series of typographic posters created on Liberation Day. The editions were printed on poster paper in A3 format using types including Times Italic, Linea nero, Aurora, and Triennale.
