What comes to mind when you think of blood? In this workshop, we will explore blood through the lens of queer feminist joy with zine-making as an accessible tool to unleash our creativity and investigate the stories of strength, liberation and joy flowing through our veins.
You will have the opportunity to dive into themes such as ancestry, bonds, blood as a vital fluid, periods, birth, transition, and much more.
Aghh! Zine will support you throughout your zine-making journey showing you how to create a zine and using some prompts relating to the theme to help you get started. Join us in this safe space where we can share our experiences, explore different subjects and celebrate ourselves and others.
No real blood will be used! Fake blood is encouraged!
This workshop is open to all artistic abilities. No experience is required. Come with an open and playful mind. Be prepared to free the creative in you.
All materials will be provided, but if there is something you would like to bring (ie.magazines, books, photos to cut up, drawing materials, etc.) you are welcome to do so.
The workshops will take place at The Ledward Centre in Brighton in the downstairs exhibition space which is accessible via stairs or lift and is about 9 x 5 metres in size. There is a wheelchair-accessible toilet.

Devil’s Dyke Network brings you “Joy – A Queer Feminist Exhibition” From Saturday 20 Jan – Thursday 29 Feb 2024 at The Ledward Centre.
The exhibition explores an orchestra of creative responses to how queer intersectional feminists make joy, where it exists despite ourselves, how the fragments of our experiences and pieces of our beings can join together to make beautiful joyous multiplicity and how sparks of joy nestle in all our stories. Each exhibiting artist or workshop leader has the freedom to create chords that speak to Queer Feminist joy in their own unique way, utilising whatever visual or sensory language resonates. Through exploration and immersion in the exhibition space/ workshops, we invite participants to celebrate and connect with the joy in their own lives and to increase their capacity for making more of it.
