Stampa a più matrici nel segno di Nick Morley
Sunday 14 April from 9:00 to 13:00 at Floe Studio, Vicenza.
A Spring morning dedicated to linocut and multi-colour printing, experimenting with the deconstruction of the image through the impression of multiple blocks, presenting the possibility of materials and techniques in continuity with the reduction print.
A monographic journey that starts from the text “Linocut: Learn in a Weekend” by Nick Morley AKA Linocutboy published by Skittledog for Thames & Hudson Press in 2023.
The chromatic value of the image, the closeness between printing and illustration in the Anglo-Saxon world will be explored with forays into the editorial, graphic and narrative fields. The echo of a great irreverent and contemporary master known by Federico Blu of Prussia during a workshop at the Opificio della Rosa returns as a protagonist, guiding aspiring engravers in a compendium populated by animals, imaginative characters and bright shades to approach the linocut with ease, counting on easy basic equipment. Templates and image layers will guide you step by step until the final rendering.
Minimum number of members: 4. Maximum number of members: 8.
Registration fee including materials for drawing, engraving and printing:
€100 per participant. Laboratory open to all.
After a brief theoretical introduction on the history and contemporary evolution of Modern Printmaking with attention to contemporary artists, current materials and reference points of the Italian and international panorama, we will move on to the graphic interpretation. Each participant will have the opportunity to design a matrix with attention to the rhythm of the image, the solids and voids, harmonizing the composition. It will be possible to test the linoleum and verify firsthand the variability of the carving tools. The inking will be carried out by roller using sustainable colors with low environmental impact, we will proceed up to the actual printing of the multi-colour blocks.
A Japanese-bound booklet will collect the day’s experience by collecting suggestions, references and offering the student an illustrated bibliographical selection.
The proposal will be enriched by specific videos and catalogues.
Participants can bring with them a pencil case with their own drawing material or a starting idea to develop during the course.
