Explore screen printing using paper stencils on this one-day workshop.
Get to grips with our fantastic screen printing facilities and learn the basics of screen printing onto paper.
You will use paper stencil methods to print multi-layered prints, experimenting with transparent inks to produce interesting layers and outcomes. Handcut stencils allow you to work quickly and you’ll make a handful of layers throughout the day.
What experience do I need?
This course is suitable for absolute beginners, since we will cover the basics of how to screen print well. However, people who already have screen print in their practice but would enjoy a new approach will also benefit. Stencil screen print can be a great way to bring experimentation and freedom to your practice.
What will I make?
Throughout the day you will produce 10-20 multi-layered, multi-coloured screen prints onto A3 paper to take away with you.
Who is my tutor?
Laura Alice is a printmaker and illustrator specialising in screen print and lino on paper. Her work is heavily inspired by nature with a particular focus on birds using vibrant colours. Laura values the hand-made in her work, focusing on creating hand-drawn positives for screen print to create rich textures and contrast. Laura has been a long-standing member of Leeds Print Workshop and has 11 years of experience teaching across a variety of art and design disciplines.
Do I need to bring anything?
All materials and equipment will be provided, including the screens, inks and good quality cartridge paper.
You might want to bring some sketchbooks, ideas and source materials for your prints; however, you will also be just fine if you show up on the day with a blank slate and work in an experimental and abstract way. It would be useful to bring a portfolio folder to take your prints home – these are also available to buy at the workshop.
If I can’t attend can I get a refund?
We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non refundable. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.
What if the course is cancelled?
We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.
Accessibility
Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and accessible toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one blue badge car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.
Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
