Screenprinter and illustrator Zellerluoid has collaborated with his pal comic and poster artist Michael Hacker to organise this year’s Vienna International Gig Poster Show at WUK. The pair invited 14 artists and collectives from seven different countries to present their concert posters for bands including Foo Fighters, Melvins, Pixies, Iggy Pop, Sonic Youth, Mando Diao, Pixies, blink-182, Beatsteaks, Motorpsycho, Green Day, and many more.
The festival aims to showcase the diversity of the European poster scene. Among the exhibitors are both trained and self-taught artists, as well as people who come from a totally different working background. The common element is the love of music and a do-it-yourself mentality, which is reflected in the medium of screen printing.
Each day of the event will see two artist talks which will provide visitors with an understanding of the creation and printing process, and will show all of the steps from the initial idea to the finished artwork. In addition, there will also be a live screen printing presentation during which the festival poster will be printed on site (using a very simple DIY setup).
To keep the show free of admission they have launched a Kickstarter Campaign with a broad range of rewards. These rewards include a goodie bag, limited edition prints, and a t-shirt!
