Ed Ruscha is an American artist associated with the pop art movement and has worked across the mediums of painting, drawing, photography and of course printmaking.
I am particularly interested in Ruscha’s aerial, black and white photographs of US car parks. The flat images present an alien viewpoint that highlights the predictability of human behaviour. You can see where the majority of vehicles have been parked closest to the shopping centres or stadiums because of the intensity of petrol stains on the tarmac. I like to think that the images present shapes of amenity and visual traces of human behaviour.
