We are delighted to announce that the special design piece by founder Eike König of Hort is also gracing the front cover of the third issue of Print Isnt Dead. Eike König is considered one of the most influential designers of our time. Now, twenty years after Hort was first established, we are super excited to have his wondrous typographic design works featured in our latest issue. If you have yet to decide whether to pick up a copy, Eike is here to tell us about his fun, yet thoughtful cover design for the glorious Element 003.
Please introduce yourself.
I’m Eike König, a graphic designer who is running the design studio HORT Berlin.
How would you describe your creative practice in three words?
Conceptual thought through.
How did you come to the final design for the cover of Element 003?
For some time now I’m interested in researching the relationship between the language we are using and the context it’s settled in. What happens when you cut of the relationship and set fragmented parts, like popular words in a new context. A magazine is constructed by the binding and the pages following. There’s a human action integrated that is swifting online to a new one – the scrolling. I am interested in how this swift is changing our way of reading and understanding information.
You can now grab a copy of Print Isnt Dead Element 003 with this special cover designed by Eike here on our Department Store.
