Currently in her second year of study at Leeds Beckett University on the Graphic Arts & Design course, Aimee Elliott Demay’s practice predominantly focuses on printmaking and publishing, most of which has been in response to university briefs. Her course’s broad approach to Graphic Design has enabled Aimee to continue experimenting after college, including the support of her printmaking work.
“I tend to work in quite an abstract way in response to briefs and use printmaking through the use of publications to create more bespoke and hand-crafted work” explains Aimee. With a broad approach to creating work, she draws inspiration from all aspects of design; design studios, graphic designers, illustrators and printmakers.
In the future Aimee hopes to narrow her design focus and aesthetic in order to reflect her love for climbing and the natural world, and is currently working on a series of printmaking and publication projects centred on this theme. “The more I learn, the more I hope to be able to make more eco-conscious design decisions, and find materials that are more sustainable to create these responses” states the printmaker. Inspired by Cast Iron Design Studio and their environmentally friendly ethos, Aimee hopes to bring this sustainable approach to her own design and printmaking.
