Jordan Gadeke is a graphic designer, artist, and student at the University of Gloucestershire, working with branding and illustration. Describing himself as a “fidgeting nightmare”, being creative was the only vice that kept him still and focused as a child. “In my early years, I was often told by the adults that I’d go on to do ‘something creative’ but I just thought I was impulsive, unruly and a bit annoying – as it turns out, I had ADHD. This put a bit of a spin on being a creative. In terms of structure and regime, it’s not my forte, but I’m inquisitive and impulsive enough to call it ‘experimental’, and the overactive imagination can often be a great source of creative expression.”
His work takes inspiration from a variety of sources; the immediate world that surrounds him, signage, the logo on that random person’s t-shirt, and, of course, Instagram, where Jordan has had the pleasure of meeting lots of other amazing creatives. His designs also nod to artists such as Takashi Murakami, Daniel Arsham, Andy Warhol, and Milton Glaser.
Currently, his main goal with his work – no doubt born out of lockdown and the world’s situation – is to spread joy and put a smile upon people’s face. Thus, Jordan has adopted the iconic smiley face as the core of his graphic identity.
Adobe CC and Procreate are Jordan’s main workhorses, but recently he has also been experimenting with a Cricut and heat transfer vinyl, with plans to start hand printing using methods such as silkscreen, lino blocking, needle punch artwork, and acrylics.
With hopes to expand his webstore into more of a lifestyle brand, Jordan will be creating a range of accessible and inclusive products that everyone can enjoy and use as a platform for self expression. We for sure can’t wait to see what’s in store for this young designer!
