Luiz Junior is a Brazillian based graphic designer and tattoo apprentice. His shifting, lyrical work reflects a lifelong fascination with music: “Creating was always part of who I am. I have played the guitar since I was eight, and I have dedicated almost all my life in music studies. The transition from creating music to visual art was very natural; it was like putting two hands together, the audible and the visual.”
Luiz attended the Design School at Escola Panamericana de Artes e Design in 2007. Since graduating, he has attracted international attention via Instagram where he currently boasts a modest 11K followers. “It’s very inspiring that I can make something in the middle of one the most populated cities in the world, that can travel to places so far away from here. I love the way people respond to my images, regardless of language and lifestyle barriers.”
In 2016, he was invited to be part of the “Road to Mukono” by the company Roule Petit Ougandais. “This project aimed to provide recreation time for children in Mukono, Uganda. Different artists from around the world were invited to design a skateboard, these were then exhibited and auctioned off in galleries in Milan and Paris. The money raised went to building a skate park in Africa. Also in 2016, I was invited to design some posters for the American band Envy on The Coast, for their Reincarnation tour. As I’m a huge fan of the band, it was a great moment, personally and artistically speaking, since it was based on how everything started to me: the junction of the audible and the visual.”
