Leah Witton is a Manchester based graphic designer and print maker. After studying Graphic Design at University of the West of England in Bristol, where her final year project was on the theme of escapism, Leah decided to carry on these themes in her recent project Inside Out.
Based on her own experiences of mental health and other stresses faced by friends, Leah created a series of postcards that illustrated depression, anxiety and panic attacks. The postcards intend to help people who are struggling with their mental health and act as a resource for people so that they didn’t feel isolated. “I use my art as a way to express my self and I find it really helps. I wanted to be able to share this with other people to raise awareness and hopefully help people who are in a similar situation not feel as alone” states Leah.
Leah begins her working process by creating sketches and doodles in her notebook which she then copies into illustrator. “A lot of the time if I was feeling anxious or panicky I would start sketching” she explains. Leah then plays around with colours and patterns. Most of the inspiration for the style of her work comes from Mexican art, both through her use of shape and colour.
The Inside Out postcards were digitally printed by Awesome Merchandise.
