Illustrator and Art Director, Susann Stefanizen, lives and works in Berlin. After working for several clients in the social and cultural sectors, for the past four years she has been working for Lyrix; a German contest for young poets. Susann creates illustrations for magazines and newspapers, and has also had the honour of being invited by the Federal Ministry of Finance (Germany) to design a series of stamps.
Since studying Graphic Design in Dessau, near to the historical Bauhaus building, Susann has moved to Berlin where she has worked as a designer and art director and further developed her passion for illustration. Aside from illustration, she also has a love for creating Riso prints, and enjoys collaborating with another POP Member through printing at drucken3000. Finding her inspiration in day to day life, she likes to draw people who fit into a square. “If there was no Instagram, the square would certainly not be my first choice, but a limitation can also be an inspiration” describes the illustrator.
Susann creates digital drawings, mostly on her ipad. Explaining her working process, Susann states: “I am always afraid of a new piece of white paper, so I draw small rectangles and sketch my ideas in these small fields. Finding the idea for an illustration is the most difficult part for me, but once the idea is found and the rough sketch is made, the rest is a relaxed process and I can listen to some audio books“.
Going forward, Susann hopes to further develop her drawing skills and create more Riso prints, and is looking forward to a new project exploring translating her illustrations on to tissue paper.
