Having always been attracted to autumn and its colours, printmaker Fabio Marangoni wanted to explore the shapes and colours associated with plants at this time of year.
“The thing that has always fascinated me about nature is that it is always in constant evolution, even when it seems dead, it recreates itself, transforms itself, until it comes back alive. I am always very focused on looking for new stimuli to bring my prints and my artworks to a higher, unexpected level. Hence the desire to find a way to evolve my prints, just like leaves do in autumn.”
Thus, Fabio decided to experiment with printing a leaf. Whilst waiting for the ink to dry, he began to notice that the leaf, apparently ‘dead’, began to change shape and colour, to dry in a completely random, uncontrolled, unexpected way. Fabio had made his print ‘alive’!
From here, he started looking for different types of leaves that evolve in the strangest way. Fabio is constantly conducting research with curiosity, always trying to perfect the print and the subjects. The result is an exciting project that perhaps will also evolve in winter and over the coming seasons.
