Hayley Harrison is a printmaker living and working from her home studio in Preston, in the North West of England. Her linocut prints take inspiration from the natural world and botanical imagery.
Hayley learnt how to carve lino during her first year studying Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design at Leeds Arts University. Her first lino print series was Botanical Alphabet, where she created a floral initial print for every letter of the alphabet. This series provided the opportunity for her to learn the names of new flowers from all over the world, and increase her botanical knowledge. The project took a few years to complete whilst she was working as an interior furnishings designer full time.
When creating her prints Hayley uses Cranfield Colours inks and Pfeil cutters, on 100% cotton paper. However, she has also created designs for fabric and products including zip bags, stationery, lampshades and cushions. Haley’s work is most recognisable through her focus on the natural world, and the arrangement of florals. Her printmaking journey begins by taking photographs, then sketching designs, and transferring them to lino. Hayley carefully carves the detail until the print is finished and ready to be inked and pressed using her small press.
