Erin Hollingshead is a painter, printmaker, and illustrator living on the east coast of Canada in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, Nova Scotia). Life near the Atlantic Ocean has offered an endless stream of inspiration to the work that she creates, and Erin loves to spend her time surfing, swimming, paddling, and walking along the coast. Her artworks reflect upon these experiences by selecting the most magical moments that connecting with the water and nature has had to offer.
Erin attended NSCAD University where she majored in Painting, and has been creating this body of work for the past 8 years. In 2020 she created her first Selkie-inspired linocut, which launched her onto the path of her current series. She had initially started making ocean inspired work back in 2018, but something “clicked” after the creation of that first Selkie print. To date, she has made 4 Selkie-inspired works, and seems to have an endless flow of ocean-inspired ideas to try!
Currently, Erin is working on a series of woodcuts that will eventually turn into a colouring book. The goal is to carve 100 nudibranch sea slugs, print them, and then digitally reproduce them into her first colouring book. She hopes to also create some multi-block and reductive linocuts that explore colour. Typically, Erin works with single layer prints, but has some ideas in mind that require some more layers and colour.
