Quarterly fine art and photography magazine, Ordinary, are back with their 9th Issue. The publication features over 20 artists from around the world who are sent one ordinary object, which comes as an extra, to make it extra-ordinary. This time the issue is about one of the most ordinary objects around, but at the same time one of the most controversial ones; the tampon.
Almost half the population around the world uses a tampon every day but it’s often seen as a taboo subject to speak about it. Visually, tampons are almost always depicted the same way, either via very clinical photography or on a pink background to make it look friendlier. To change this and expand the visual world of the tampon, 28 artists from around the world were asked to make an ordinary tampon, extra-ordinary.
Featured artists include: Mauricio Alejo, Wessel Baarda, Gab Bois, Sandrine Boulet, Elena Aya Bundurakis, Matthieu Delbreuve, Annegien van Doorn, Elmer Driessen, Adrien Dubost, Caroline Fayette, Erma Fiend, David Brandon Geeting, Harmen de Hoop, Lisa Jahovic, Thomas Nondh Jansen, Moritz Jekat, Csilla Klenyánszki, Kelia Anne MacCluskey, Chase Middleton, PUTPUT, Maurits Sillem, Helmut Smits, Yumiko Utsu and Karolina Wojtas.
The issue is available from www.ordinary-magazine.com and in select shops around the world.
