Based in an old chocolate factory in Londons East End you will find letterpress studio and workshop The Counter Press which is run by freelance graphic designers, David Marshall and Elizabeth Ellis who split their time between working for various design agencies on branding and communication projects, with non-commercial printmaking. Everything they create is designed, type set and printed by hand on one of their five antique presses, using only traditional wood and hot metal type, producing contemporary typographic design, artwork and limited edition prints that are beautiful to read and touch.
They just love to print and letterpress is their analogue escape so alongside undertaking bespoke letterpress commissions and collaborative printing projects, one of The Counter Press new self directed projects comes in the form of a publication titled Extra Condensed No.1. Extra Condensed is a letterpress newspaper, with each copy individually hand printed on 56gsm newsprint, over a compact 8 pages, printed in two colours – Black and Pantone 804, in a limited edition of only 150 copies.
