Atelier Vastag is a printmaking studio run by painter, graphic designer, and screen printer Laslo Vastag. Utilising screen printing, painting, and other printing techniques he produces artworks and small edition flat stock prints. Besides serving as his personal studio, Laslo also offers printmaking services and collaborations for other creatives.
Orignally from Varazdin, Croatia, after high school (Ceramic design and Architecture) Laslo studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna with a degree in Painting and Film Animation. After years of painting and a few exhibitions he started to make music and DJing, organising music events and DJ nights which needed posters. Thus, Laslo started to make screenprinted posters for every event.Slowly, he started to incorporate screenprinting into his own paintings and personal work, building layer by layer a picture on wood. Laslo’s works are influenced by old movies, soundtracks, jazz, weird random imagery, and articles from the web that can trigger a visual idea. All combined, his resulting works look like “an old picture pulled through a bad computer code that warped up the final visual”.
Laslo’s works are creating mainly using water colour inks and oil paints, which are combined with ink, acrylic paints, and final varnishing on MDF board. If working on paper, he uses Hahnemuhle, Canson print rag and Gmund 100% cotton papers that get printed on his homemade vacuum table.
