Geneviève Dumas, aka Goldengen, is a Montreal based collage and screen printing artist. She studied Fine Art and Marketing at university, and for the last decade has been working at marketing agencies. However, after losing her job due to COVID, Geneviève saw the opportunity to work full time as a printmaker.
From her small screen print studio in her basement, Geneviève creates feminine and textural works. Her pieces begin as a built up narrative and a structured concept that involves a specific theme or a collection of intimate feelings. The printmaker’s work often incorporates imagery of vintage beaches and motel scenes, which she layers up to create a dream-like feel. Geneviève has a collection of vintage magazines and all kinds of paper which she screen prints onto when creating her artworks. She is also hugely inspired by music, and all of her artworks’ titles comes from songs. Every collection also has its own soundtrack.
Geneviève is currently working on a new series, The Name Of The Game, which is a nod to the aesthetic of the rugby pioneer and sports culture. She is also planning a zine project which will showcase her illustrations with a sentimental and astrological theme.
