Bbblob is a moniker by Jacelyn, an illustrator and designer from Singapore who works with independent labels to develop branding, logos, and print design. She graduated with a fashion degree from London College of Fashion, and has since focused her artistic practice on creating illustrations. Through her works as Bbblob, Jacelyn explores the shape of our emotions, using bright, vivid and organic shapes that interact with one another to represent one’s state of motion and being. Her practice encompasses a variety of mediums including murals, printmaking, painting, and sculpture.
Inspired by forms and the way we associate symbols to shapes, her work illustrates how everything can be represented with simple forms. “There is a quality of movement in abstract forms which I love… Like emotions, abstract forms are always in motion, interacting and evolving” explains Bbblob. By painting or creating these forms, Jacelyn captures these fleeting moments, and turns them into infinite waves of feeling.
Her pieces begin with small sketches that she then translates into paintings or collage. Jacelyn’s final artworks often incorporate a variety of media and printing techniques including paper collage, woodcut, linocut, and screen printing. For some illustrations, she also designs directly on Procreate, and then later edits in Photoshop. As part of her multi-disciplinary practice she is currently working on a mural project for a mall in Singapore in collaboration with Mural Lingo.
Always motivated to create by the hope of “discovering more on how one could express the essence of emotions“, Bbblob wishes to work on more three dimensional projects in the future by developing interactive shapes and installations. She’s excited at the prospect of working on more painted murals, and is looking forward to collaborating with fellow creatives and brands. You can shop Bbblob’s collection of prints on Department Store here.
