The Zodiac series is a new collection of screen prints by french born London based illustrator Malika Favre. The series was originally created over a year for the French magazine Be as an editorial commission. “I always felt that the Horoscopes were treated in a very obvious and almost cheesy way in women magazines so I proposed a very geometrical and modern approach to the art director of Be, Eric James Jones. He was totally up for it and gave me total freedom to treat them as graphically as I wanted. The most exciting part was to find and underlying story and small visual elements that would hint at the origins of each sign without revealing too much.”
When designing the last of the signs after a year, Malika decided to return and develop them as a consistent screen printed series. She then divided the zodiacs into the 4 elements (air, water, fire, earth) and assigned 4 different colour combinations + a common gold ink in order to have an eclectic yet coherent body of illustrations.
Each sign is a very limited edition of 20 four color screen prints in 30x30cm. Signed and numbered by the artist at a price of £65.
