In this month’s issue of Posterzine – the A4 zine come A1 poster – we catch up with illustrator Carissa Potter Carlson, AKA People I’ve Loved, whose artwork illustrates the modern human experience.
From her backyard studio in Oakland, California, where she lives with her husband and young daughter, Carissa creates her designs which she sells as printed cards, small objects, or weaves into blankets and hats. Whether she’s unpacking the meaning of real love, highlighting the beauty of imperfections, or depicting the nuances in everyday emotions, Carissa’s simple drawings often illustrate complex subjects.
Chatting with the artist over Zoom, we learnt more about how People I’ve Loved began, her creative process, and were even treated to an impromptu musical performance from her 18-month-old daughter, Margaret.
