We’ve been busy searching for new shops to collaborate with regarding our new special Shops collection as part of our ever-expanding curated marketplace, aka Department Store! One of our latest additions is Tidy Print run by creative duo Jade Downer and Daniel Tomlinson. Having launched their shop located in Brighton’s North Laine back in 2016, the pair have gone from feat to feat, hosting live screen printing events, workshops, offering an open access scheme for the local printers, and generally creating some brilliant work. Below we interviewed Jade to find out a little more about Tidy Print.
P: Hi Jade, so let’s start at beginning, who are you and what do you do?
J: We are Jade, Daniel and Kiki (the spaniel). We met in South London in 2014 and myself and Daniel returned to Brighton and opened Tidy Print in July 2016. Kiki joined the family this year and is settling in to her role as shop dog perfectly!
We run the shop and studio full time, offering workshops in which clients can screen print onto fabric or paper. We produce our own prints regularly, but predominantly I’m a film photographer, which I incorporate heavily into my print making, while Daniel has a passion and talent for illustration. Youll often find him at Draw, Brightons life drawing sessions.
P: Great, and what is Tidy Print exactly?
J: Tidy Print is a screen printing studio and retail shop in Brightons North Laine. We specialise in screen prints, but also have a lovely range of household items and more.
P: Wonderful! And what does it stand for?
J: We make art and design accessible for everyone. Weve made an effort to do so through our affordable range of prints within the shop and our weekly screen printing workshops.
Were also a platform for local artists to showcase their work. One of our ceramicists was just starting out when we opened last July. We now keep her very busy making pots for us regularly throughout the year! Its been so lovely to watch her grow as an artist, and make a friend in the process.
P: Whats your favourite part of Tidy Print/ Your job?
J: Our favourite part is getting to meet so many lovely, interesting and creative people everyday. And getting to spend lots of time creating artwork, of course!
P: Sounds amazing, and finally what are your plans for the future?
We really hope to expand our studio at some point, as we love running our workshops and teaching people. We would love to be able to run more in-depth courses for people of all ages soon.
