I generally have a huge amount of respect for any Artist that embodies almost obsessive hand-rendered techniques in their practice and last week I read the most amazing article via Colossals website I just had to share. 271 years before Pantone, an Artist only known as A.Boogert created the most insane and beautiful hand-rendered book about mixing watercolours describing both colour and hues. Consisting of nearly 800 handwritten and painted pages the book is said to be the most comprehensive guide to both colour and paint of its time and was created with the purpose to educate (despite the fact there was only 1 copy ever made!) The book is currently being looked after at the Bibliothèque Méjanes in Aix-en-Provence, France and you can see every single one of its beautiful pages here.
