New People of Print Member Adriano Fidalgo is a Portuguese/Brazilian graphic designer and printmaker based in London. His career started in Rio de Janeiro, where he grew up, working for fashion companies, publishing houses, design and architecture practices creating illustrations, books, catalogues, branding, environments and set designs. Later on, he art-directed campaigns for fashion brands exercising a minimalistic visual language.
Since moving to London in 2014, Fidalgo has been focused on multidisciplinary projects for a diverse range of clients in retail, media agencies, design and interior design studios, expanding into digital and 3D animation. In the UK he had the chance to revisit his first art influences, such as collage, fanzine, skateboard and 1970s & 80s rock posters to develop screen printing pieces that can be found on the walls and lampposts of Shoreditch. The ironic, satirical work is a comment on the current political climate and the everyday conspicuous consumption seen in London.
What Fidalgo loves about screen printing is the vast amount of paper sorting available, the speed and fun of the process and the ability to incorporate both analogue and digital techniques to achieve immediate results.
Printmaking has become a graphic laboratory where everything is possible, and we can’t stop exploring the extensive amount of talented artists who are practising in this exciting field.
