‘Currently Going’ by Trackie McLeod (or Connor to his mam) – Is a visual artist from Glasgow. He is studying Graphic Design at the Glasgow School of Art and will be graduating at the end of the year. Trackie describes his work as a hybrid between design and fine art, with a keen interest in photography and installations. His inspiration is very much everything stylistically bad about the late 90’s and early noughties – mixed with a reminiscent of his own experiences as a youth.
His on-going project on working class masculinity – began after reading Grayson’s Perry’s ‘Descent of Man’ which made Trackie question his own relationship with masculinity – being the ‘man of the house’ in an all-female household.
This project was a way to review and put in perspective a man’s ‘role’. Through exploring modern male stereotypes and looking at his own relationship with masculinity. Growing up that culture came with football, which played a crucial part determining your maleness. This is something that the artist commented on through his piece “Mummy’s Boy”. The expectations of being a sportsman with the reality : Trackie cuts a mean Spice girl dance routine.
This projects aims was to raise awareness around the pressure put on men to conform and take part in the expectations of what you have to do to be a man.
