Donald Urquhart

Donald Urquhart is an Edinburgh based artist who exhibits regularly both across Scotland and internationally. His concerns with issues of seeing and knowing, with respect to the landscape, can be seen as a continuum stretching back to his childhood in rural Highland Perthshire. Whilst grounded in the disciplines of drawing and painting, his practice has diversified in recent years to encompass the use of printmaking. My favourite works are within his printmaking which are the etchings that are shown in this entry, atmospheric prints of the land, shown in a very dark contrasted and bold way. It is work that can be characterised as being simple and highly formal, what has been referred to as ‘epic simplicity.’
