With the arrival of September and a new season on the horizon, Glasgow-based printmaker Emily Chappell is introducing Winterface, her 3 colour, hand-printed silkscreen print dedicated to the God of chilblains, cracked hands, stiff joints, and seasonal low mood.
Produced in limited edition of 20, the print is inspired by a sketchbook doodle she first made back in 2022. Emily tells us; “I felt particularly weather-beaten and chilled to the bone – a bit like a semi decaying leaf and partially see-through. As the Scots say, ‘peely-wally’.” She continues; “I thought it would make a big bold silkscreen print in a similar vein to a previous print entitled, ‘Ancestral Likeness’ – A big, bold, unapologetically weathered face.”
The print was produced in Emily’s home studio, using colours she had left over from previous work. Commenting on her use of colour she states; “I love to use colours that shimmer next to one another, but aren’t jarring in a ‘psychedelia’ kind of way”.
Keep your eyes peeled for more print releases soon!
