An eagerly awaited show by me, and many others no doubt is the Tate Moderns Henri Matisse, Cut Outs. In his later years Matisse was unable to paint, he began to produce cut outs as preparations for commissioned works. Over time Matisse preferred this technique over others due of his ill health. Matisse is a giant of modern painting, abstraction and colour, his works spanning a huge variety of subject matter and exploration of materials. His work is emotional and tender, yet bold and bright, and it seems to capture the basic joys of seeing, and experiencing life.
