Liam Ashley Clark has been making and showing work for over a decade, since graduating from Norwich University of the Arts in 2012. He moved to Norwich from just down the road in Ipswich to study Fine Art, and has stayed in the city ever since. In 2018, Liam went back to art school to do his Masters, also in Fine Art, which he graduated from in 2019.
During his time on the Masters course Liam was selected as a Bloomberg New Contemporary and included on the Saatchi Art Rising Stars report. Since then, he has been making work from his home studio and exhibiting both locally and internationally. A lot of the local shows he has organised as part of the TBA collective, which he formed with a small group of friends whilst studying.
Today, Liam works across multiple disciplines, including drawing, painting, photography, print, 3D, and more, as well as doing the occasional illustration, mural, and creating a lot of zines. His work takes influence from the D.I.Y. cultures and creators of skateboarding, punk, hip-hop and folk scenes, and is inspired by a wide spectrum of interests including; politics, society, psychology, current events, youth culture and more. With humour playing a big role in his work, a surrealist comedic element is often integrated too, allowing the audience to consider a much more serious subject matter.
His work usually begins with a quick ink drawing (these drawings have been complied in his Brain Puke zines). The drawings are finished works in themselves, but also inform other work, forming the the start of painting ideas or even 3D works.
Currently, Liam is working on a new collection of paintings, and has recently produced the 20th edition of his Brain Puke zines as well as a small photo book.
