Magdalena Szata is an artist driven by an endless curiosity and a passion for experimentation, expressing her creative vision in many different forms. Currently, she involves herself in graphic projects, specialising in printmaking techniques such as linocut, etching, and pen and ink drawings on paper. “These methods offer a great range of artistic possibilities for me – by working with lines and dots I build tonal transitions that create contrast and depth, bring the mood out and enhance the structure,” says the artist.
Nature and the world around her are the biggest inspirations for Magdalena’s artworks. She is fascinated by the patterns, shapes, textures, and concepts that she encounters daily. In her art, Magdalena searches for diversity and contrasting perspectives, integrating seemingly opposing ideas into one, unified whole. Through combining not necessarily obvious elements in one abstract or surreal form, Magdalena integrates the real world with the slightly mystical and mysterious one, striving for balance and harmony.
For Magdalena, art is a language of emotion, thought, and observation. It is her way of meditating, calming her mind, and embracing the flow of creativity. Her art communicates without words, allowing viewers to derive personal meaning through their own experiences and feelings.
In addition to her graphic art, Magdalena has a deep love for black and white analogue photography. Like her graphic work, she emphasises tonality over colour, highlighting the essence of her subjects and focusing on what is important in photographed scene. She tells us; “I love walking through the streets with my camera in hand, exploring city places – sometimes forgotten and sometimes unvisited for a long time, capture everyday life, interesting sceneries and characters. Finding beauty in ordinary things and giving them a meaning. And then developing pictures, spending time in the darkroom, and catching the magic when the image appears at the paper.”
Magdalena’s journey as an artist is quite unique. Self-taught and with an unconventional career path, she has continually discovered new talents and techniques, enhancing her creativity. She began developing her drawing skills at an early age, participating in exhibitions and winning several national prizes for young artists. Despite initially devoting her time to designing business and financial strategies, she ultimately returned to her artistic passion. Magdalena completed a two-year program at the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Open Academy of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, which marked her transition to a full-time artist. Now working from her home studio in Warsaw, Magdalena’s works are exhibited locally and online, with her prints available in galleries and on her website.
She concludes; “I’m always seeking for something new, ready to explore more and discover new creation forms. I’m open to different concepts of expression that allow me to deepen my workshop and broaden the visual aspects of my artwork.”
