Melissa Guido is a multidisciplinary printmaker, illustrator, and educator with over eight years of professional studio practice in fine art print and production. Her career so far has included working at the School of Visual Arts in their Printmaking department as a printmaking assistant, and an associate printer at Ribuoli Digital. This past summer, Melissa also completed Dafi Kühne’s Typographic Printing Program at his studio in Switzerland.
Currently, Melissa is on a Fulbright grant in Iceland, researching sustainable practices in textile printing and production. The main focus of the project is to connect with textile artists and crafters learning traditional Icelandic practices in dyeing, knitting, embroidery, eco printing, and textile printing. Here, she is working alongside the textile department at the Reykjavík School of Visual Arts, making prints with mordants and natural pigments. This is a developing project into spring of 2025, and you can follow along on her Instagram as it unfolds.
Aside from this, Melissa has involved herself with many other artistic experiences, including furniture restoration, textiles, woodworking, and bookmaking. Her work is influenced by fashion and costume design from the 1920s, and looks to movements such as Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Bauhaus for inspiration. Pattern design and religious iconography have become signature features of her designs.
Stay tuned to see how her project develops!
