Mirror, Mirror is the latest lino print creation from Italy-based printmaker Nadia Resta. The A4 piece printed in gold ink on black paper presents a girl holding a big mirror, framed with wild leaves, a crow, and a skull.
Mirror, Mirror aims to showcase the importance and power of introspection. Nadia tells us; “In difficult times, as represented by the crow and the skull, we need to look inside ourselves, or simply look at ourselves in a mirror to find all the reasons that we truly feel. We always feel in competition with people showing off their lives, in an endless run to showing ourselves, the constant comparison with others is exhausting and we feel we are always not enough. We are losing the connection with our why and things that make us happy. Sometimes we should just stop and look ourselves in the mirror.”
Gold is a material considered precious and valuable in all the cultures of the world, thus through her use of printing in this colour Nadia gives the same importance to inner emotions or feelings that we tend to hide.
