Last spring, screen printer and illustrator Studio Miammmiam produced a new set of screen prints entitled Amours Sauvages / Wild Loves. The collection, which was composed of 20 new screen prints, was exhibited at Supalife Kiosk, a screen print gallery in Berlin, last July, and is now for sale via Studio Miammmiam’s online shop.
Inspired by wildlife and pop culture documentaries watched during the lockdowns, and supported by deprivation of open space and lack of travel, Miammmiam takes the viewer on a journey to the edge of the known world. From the stars above, to the depths of the oceans, with our pets or wild horses, Amours Sauvages tells the stories of the courtship of manta rays, the filial love of a family of uprooted polar bears, and the friendly games of foxes in the Grunewald forest. The collection reflects the fragility and poetry of a world endangered by global warming, where the dangers are there but the concerns seem somewhere else.
The new series is the result of meticulous investigations into formal research, textures, gradients, and colours that play with transparencies. The pieces were produced using only analogue techniques and with new textures, starting from coloured pencils to colour testing for the final print. All of the drawings (one type for each colour) were done by hand, with brush and ink, or pencil. They were then printed by hand at Stattlab, a screen printing workshop and photo lab in Berlin-Wedding.
