“Geometry has had a special place in my heart since I was a child,” begins Germany-based linocut artist Veskor Cassiopeia. He continues; “It’s incredible how shapes and patterns can inspire such awe and wonder”. This is why Veskor has delved into the world of lino printing, as he can combine his passion for art, precision, and craftsmanship. He fell in love with the process when a fellow artist moved into his shared studio, bringing along an old printing press; “The moment I laid eyes on that simple yet powerful device, I felt an irresistible urge to explore its possibilities and create vibrant murals for my own space.”
Much to his own surprise, the prints he shared on social media, including one of his very first creations Central Sun, received a tremendous response. “People expressed their excitement and even asked if they could buy them. This encouraged me to open an Etsy store and share my art with the world,” says the printmaker.
Now, Veskor’s handmade works, which are mostly limited editions, find their way to art lovers all around the globe. He strives to create not just beautiful artwork, but also to highlight the entire process behind it. On platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and his website, Veskor takes you on a journey, step by step, from designing the motif to carving the linoleum plate, showcasing new paper selections, and finally printing using his trusty hand-powered press.
“I firmly believe that the energy of the subject portrayed is just as important as the tactile experience of the artwork itself,” comments Veskor. It is for this reason that he pays great attention to paper choice. He sources high-quality sheets from traditional paper manufacturers in France, Germany, Japan, and Nepal. These papers are lovingly handcrafted from natural materials, making each print absolutely unique. His collection of papers continues to grow, inspiring new ideas and possibilities.
Currently, Veskor works from a cosy studio in Augsburg, Germany, his birth city; “It’s a beautiful space that I share with my girlfriend, who is also an artist. Our studio is filled with natural light, has a large terrace, and is adorned with lush plants, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I cherish the time I spend here, as it allows me to fully immerse myself in my creative process.”
His day usually begins bright and early, at 6 o’clock in the morning, with a cup of turmeric golden milk. “The quiet hours of the morning hold a special quality that fills me with inspiration for the rest of the day,” describes Veskor. When he creates his art, he enters a meditative state, finding peace and tranquility. This state of mind helps him achieve the precision required for carving each printing plate. The calmness he experiences during the process shines through in the finished artwork, making it perfect for infusing your personal space with positive energy.
Veskor invites you to join him on a journey into the world of sacred geometry. He concludes; “Whether you choose to draw, paint, or carve these beautiful forms, the magic of sacred geometry is accessible to all. It’s incredibly rewarding to explore and experiment with these concepts on your own… Creating print plates is a wonderful way to center yourself and embrace the enchantment of life. In these times of significant change, sharing these motifs with others is not just a passion but a heartfelt mission.”
