Block Shop are a Californian based textile company run by two sisters Hopie and Lily Stockman. What makes their printed scarfs so special is the collaboration between themselves as designers and the 20 traditional block printers in Bagru, India who hand make each scarf. Their striking and bold designs combined with the beautiful dyes and skills of the printmakers equal stunning results. All the scarfs are made in India using hand carved wood blocks, natural dyes and traditional techniques, that are over 350 years old!
With a percentage of the sales Block Shop invest in a community fund to support the lives for the families in the printing cooperative and wider community. At the heart of their mission they want to create luxurious handmade textiles whilst meeting the highest ethical standards, and ensuring the environmentally sustainable future of an ancient tradition, and they’re not planning on stoping there. With their next goal to address the challenges of drinking water and waste water in the community, they are an inspiration. We are stunned by the designs outcomes from the creative duo and their team of talented printers, and combined with their dedication to supporting the Bagru community they are doing a pretty amazing job.
