This year, Graphic Design Festival Scotland is turning 5 years old! Run by James Gilchrist, Beth Wilson, Victoria Donnelly and Mitchell Gillies of Glasgow-based design practice Warriors Studio, the festival has welcomed 150,000 participants, visitors and contributors and organised over 120 projects and events so far.
Through their week long event, GDFS provides a platform for up-and-coming creatives and also creates opportunities for people to learn and develop their skills and build connections. They also aim to promote Scotland as a hub for creativity and design and build links between Scotland and the rest of the world, building a creative community.
The event launched with the opening of the International Poster Exhibition at the Lighthouse, Glasgow and runs until the 25th of October with a week full of events featuring a Q&A with Erik Kessels and David Carson, talks with industry leaders such as Pentagram’s Naresh Ramchandani, workshops with renowned studios and designers, and exhibitions.
This year, Warriors Studio teamed up with Cause and Effect to create this years GDFS identity. The playful visuals all stemmed from the idea of a five year old’s birthday party including a body of illustrations featuring balloons, party hats, streamers and jelly, adding contrast with the use of a monochromatic colour palette.
