Oslo-based design studio Neue have designed Norway’s new passports featuring illustrations of the country’s stunning landscapes that change from day to night under UV light.
Released earlier this week after winning the contract back in 2014, the finalised versions of the passports not only are harder to forge but also exploring the sweeping landscapes of the nation.
Six years ago, entrants were invited to submit a design that matches the contemporary theme of Norway’s scenery and identity. The aim for renewing the passports was to increase security and to create a sense of belonging and connection across Norwegian people of all generations.
Today, after half a decade of development, the new travel documents which are now in circulation are even more compelling in real life. The design sees Neue’s penchant for simplicity translated into illustrations depicting different parts of a broad Norwegian panorama where you can enjoy a dazzling mix of natural wonders including fjords, mountains, forests, rivers, sunsets and the northern lights.
Under UV light, the hidden details which are cleverly incorporated into the parts of each page come to life, unveiling the beauty of Aurora Borealis or the Moon.
“We want to show the contrasts in landscapes and climates that have shaped us, offered opportunities and resources, places for recreation and the scenes of important historical events.”
