If youre an artist based in New York, youre in luck. Yo-NEWYORK! is the title of the open submission zine inviting visual artists, writers and poets to apply for the latest issue. The zine is a refreshing combining of art and visual literature, which acts as a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talents otherwise unfortunately overshadowed. Yo-NEWYORK! combines the talents of the creative minds, exemplified through an array of mediums, resulting in the surreal flow, featuring multiple views of the city at this moment in time.
Beginning in the fall of 2014, Yo-NEWYORK! is searching for contributors for its third issue, who following routine, will decorate a double page spread freely, for it to then be stacked into a book structure and folded to create the zine, thus half of the artwork will end up in partnership with another artists contribution, resulting in the creation of new juxtapositions and exchanges.
Yo-NEWYORK! acts as a time capsule of the iconic city, representing the contrasting views experienced by the artists, both psychological and architectural.
Charlie Rubin, a Brooklyn based photographer has recently set up a Kickstarter page to contribute towards the printing and distribution costs, check it out here.
