Edgar Bak Studio & Lapidarium Collaboration

London- based fashion brand Lapidarium present their latest campaign and special project in collaboration with Edgar Bak Studio. Lapidarium is a young womenswear and menswear label specialising in a sustainable yet exciting approach towards fashion. Founded by the talented duo Marta Gos and Martyna Sobczak both who graduated from Fashion Design Technology Menswear at London College of Fashion, the brand is now in its second collection. Entilted MANIFA, the collection originates from the cause to protest against the stricter abortion law in Poland proposed by the current Polish government in 2016. The protest saw many women go on strike, most notably on Black Monday in October 2016, which in the end resulted in the existing legislation being retained while the new, stricter amendment to the law was rejected.

The collection contains symbols and metaphors that are visible in embroidered and printed badges, designed by Edgar Bak Studio, translating from Polish as ‘Women rights’ or ‘My body, my choice.’ Inspiration for this stems from the unified power between contemporary women, where sisterhood is visible, relentless, uncompromising and brave. This notion of working together is fiercely reflected in their design approach to each project, liaising closely with fabrication and materials, creating their own prints or collaborating with London based printers.

A definitive element of Lapidarium is the use of selected suppliers specialising in organic, certified, recycled qualities, or lower-impact ones. At the same time designers experiment with textile waste and recycling/upcycling ideas working on zero-waste production and closed-loop technologies themselves. For example, Jersey compositions are made of innovative, high quality 100% regenerated polyamide fibre from post-consumer material and organic cotton jerseys are made of unbleached, undyed, pure organic cotton, farmed and produced ethically and sustainably, certified by OCCGuarantee and GOTS systems.
