Luxury luggage brand, RIMOWA, recently comissioned Athens-based graphic designer Filippos Fragkogiannis to design four postage stamps which would form a collection dedicated to the city where the company was founded; Cologne, Germany.
Filippos was inspired by reviewing the prosperous corporate archive, which includes unique advertising content, artistic, and photographic material. Furthermore, he looked at some of the extraordinary local characteristics of the city, such as famous public works of art, the local culinary culture, and of course, the admirable Cologne Cathedral as it is depicted on beer coasters.
The stamp collection was ultimately not released to the market; nevertheless, Filippos was delighted to collaborate once again with the team at RIMOWA.
Filippos holds an MA in Visual Communication, and a BA in Graphic Design from Vakalo College and the University of Derby. Having collaborated with acclaimed graphic and type designers, he established his own practice back in 2019. His research-based approach is rooted in semiotics, symbolism and the mechanics of visual language. His projects centre around visual identities, posters, and print collateral, and he regularly enhances type foundries with bold imagery.
