Vonik’s work is undeniably playful, detailed, and filled with quiet wonder. This time, the People of Print member has taken that illustrative charm beyond paper and pixels, teaming up with FiberArt to create a woven blanket that feels like a seaside daydream you can wrap around yourself.
Last month, the team at FiberArt invited Vonik to design a custom throw using their beautiful jacquard weaving machine, a tool that translates intricate illustrations into richly textured fabric. For the design, Vonik turned to their Seaside Illustration Collection, a series inspired by slow, thoughtful days spent exploring the shore.
“I just love slowly walking around, looking at all the small things you can find at the beach and in tidepools,” Vonik says. “It felt nice to put something summery on something to keep me warm in the winter.”
The final product is a woven artwork that captures those small moments of coastal curiosity, the glint of shells, the rhythm of the tide, and the warm nostalgia of summer days.
Each Seaside Blanket is made from a blend of 100% cotton and recycled cotton, measuring approximately 180 × 135 cm (72″ × 54″), and woven with meticulous care to bring out the soft tonal interplay of coloured threads. Seeing the design come to life through the jacquard process, Vonik says, was a thrill:
“It was amazing to see how all the different colours of threads are mixed into the right colours — like watching my drawings re-emerge in a whole new material.”
The blankets are available now for pre-order until September 30th for €75 (excluding shipping). A limited run for those who love illustration, craftsmanship, and a touch of coastal magic to get them through the colder months.
