Barcelona-based design studio TwoPoints have yet again pulled another epic project out the bag. On the Road to Variable — The Flexible Future of Typography is a 264pg book filled with 122 inspiring works centred around the theme of variable typography. Printed with a split cover each printed in a different colourway, the covers include three Pantone colours with two popping fluorescent inks and a clear hot foil finish.
Featuring an array of bold, colourful, playful, experimental, traditional styles of design work, the curated selection is certainly a work of art. The book features insightful interviews with Felix Pfäffli from Studio Feixen and Mitch Paone from DIA with a carefully thought out introduction posing and answering questions such as ‘what is variable typography?’ and ‘why emphasise on the variable aspect of typography now?’. In addition, the book’s structuring system is something to take note of, organised by first its Variable Position; then Variable Position, Width; Variable Position, Width, Height; Variable Position, Width, Height, Styles and Variable through Transformation.
